Medical Alumni Association honors Distinguished Alumnus
Dr. Richard A. Becker, an eminent San Antonio physician, will receive the 1999 Distinguished Alumnus Award from the Medical Alumni Association.
Dr. Becker, a practicing endocrinologist and clinical professor of medicine in the Department of Medicine, Division of Endocrinology, received his M.D. from the Health Science Center's Medical School in 1971. He completed his internship and residency in medicine at Boston City Hospital, followed by a fellowship in endocrinology and metabolism at Yale University Medical School. He will be honored at an upcoming reception.
Currently secretary of the Texas Diabetes and Endocrine Association, Dr. Becker served as president of the Medical Alumni Association at the Health Science Center from 1997 through 1999. He is a member of the Bexar County Medical Society and the Texas Medical Association.
A former lieutenant commander in the U.S. Navy National Naval Medical Center, Dr. Becker is the recipient of numerous honors and awards, including the 1989 Outstanding Physician Award from the Travelers Health Network and a Visiting Scientist Fellowship from the Swedish Medical Research Council.
