MJ is examining nicotinic acetylcholine receptor mechanisms that mediate the behavioral effects of nicotine. These studies will shed light on mechanisms in the CNS responsible for tobacco use and dependence (i.e., cigarette smoking). Moreover, this research will contribute to the development of novel approaches for treating nicotine dependence and withdrawal.
