Schizophrenia patients display enhanced levels of endocannabinoids; however, those with the highest levels appear to have fewer symptoms. Similarly, studies by the lab of Dr. Giuffrida have demonstrated that deficits in social behavior, observed in a rodent model of schizophrenia, can be reversed by increasing endocannabinoids. David utilizes in vivo extracellular recordings, in freely behaving animals, to determine how endogenous cannabinoids regulate neuronal activity in the prefrontal cortex and hippocampus of a rodent model of schizophrenia.
