Location: 2102 Treasure Hills Blvd.
Expected completion: August 2007
Size: 79,000 square feet on two floors

Ingredients for success:

This is the second building of the Regional Academic Health Center (RAHC) in Harlingen. The Academic and Clinical Research Building will be a major patient care and clinical research center, with 34,000 square feet dedicated to the Harlingen Veterans Healthcare Center. The new center will provide outstanding training opportunities for residents and research and clinical education opportunities for medical students who will be uniquely qualified to understand the conditions and needs of veterans and to improve the health and well-being of the residents of the South Texas Border Region. Expanded patient services will include: primary care, mental health, eye care, women’s health and social work services, and the addition of in-house audiology, dental, pharmacy, clinical laboratory, physical therapy, prosthetics, radiology and additional specialty services. Space also will be allocated for clinical faculty at the RAHC to collaborate with faculty in San Antonio to develop Valley-based clinical and translational research programs in diabetes, infectious diseases, cancer, aging, cardiovascular disease and other topics most relevant to the people of the Valley.
