H-E-B gives $1 million to CCRI

May 2006

A $1 million contribution from H-E-B to the Children’s Cancer Research Institute (CCRI) will allow for the establishment of the first CCRI Distinguished Chair in Pediatric Oncology. Sharon Murphy, M.D., CCRI director, will occupy the chair. Dr. Murphy is an internationally recognized cancer researcher who came to the Health Science Center in 2002 from the Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University.

"Researchers who are the caliber of Dr. Murphy are highly sought after throughout the country," President Cigarroa said. "Their creative minds are precious resources that South Texas must keep, and H-E-B is providing the means to keep them."
