Presidentís Council Makes Possible New Endowed Chairs
Robert Campbell Jr., M.D.

Dr. Campbell was awarded the new Presidentís Council Chair for Excellence in Pediatric Orthopaedic Surgery. Dr. Campbell invented the Vertical Expandable Prosthetic Titanium Rib to save the lives of children whose rib and spine abnormalities do not allow normal lung growth. Families come from around the world to San Antonio, where Dr. Campbell has performed 210 titanium rib implants at CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Childrenís Hospital. He serves as director of the hospitalís Thoracic Institute. In 2004 the Titanium Rib became the first truly new spine deformity treatment to gain FDA approval since 1962.
