MED ED | A UTHSCSA PROGRAM

FIELD TRIPS TO UTHSCSA  |  WHERE DO I GET TO GO?

The Med Ed Program is administered through the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. We serve as your contact point and connection to the School of Health Professions, Biomedical Graduate School, Dental School, San Antonio School of Medicine, and the School of Nursing.

Three to four times a year, the Med Ed Program takes students to the Health Science Center to visit the five schools, meet professors and students, and hear from renowned physicians and researchers in a wide range of health science fields. Students have the opportunity to tour not only the Health Science Center but also the surrounding medical facilities and selected undergraduate institutions in San Antonio. Students interested in taking part in these field trips must submit a supplemental application, current transcript, and essay. Personal interviews are conducted with field trip applicants and a mandatory parent-student orientation meeting takes place before each trip.

BROWN BAGS  |  WHAT CAREERS ARE AVAILABLE?

“Brown Bag” opportunities are made available to students and their parents as a way to expose them to a variety of careers in the health sciences. Generally, these sessions are led by professional guest speakers currently working in a particular health science profession.

ANNUAL REUNION  |  WHEN DO WE ALL GET TOGETHER?

Held only once a year, the annual Med Ed Program Reunion is designed to gather both high school and college students together for an evening of fun, food, games and camaraderie. The highlight of the evening is a featured guest speaker, and in years past, attendees have had the privilege of hearing from family practitioners, general internists, Med Ed students attending Ivy League universities, and the Associate Dean of Admissions for the School of Medicine in San Antonio.
