More than 350 shooters will compete at the Vulcan Materials Funshoot, an annual sporting-clay competition benefiting the Cancer Therapy & Research Center at the UT Health Science Center. Proceeds support the CTRC’s mission to conquer cancer through research, prevention and treatment.

Saturday, Sept. 8, 2012. The shooting competition is from 9 to 11 a.m., and competitors will be available for interviews after it concludes.

National Shooting Complex, 5931 Roft Road, San Antonio, 78253 (off of Culebra Road and outside Loop 1604)

CTRC Director Ian Thompson, Jr., M.D., will compete in the event organized by Vulcan Materials employees. Jeff Lott, vice president for Vulcan Materials, and Oscar Benavidez, Vulcan Materials district manager – sales, also will be on hand.

Spanish-language interviews are available.
Last year’s event raised more than $159,000 for the CTRC. Since 1994, the annual competition has netted almost $1.8 million. Vulcan employees volunteer their time to organize and work the fundraiser. The company created the competition as a means to raise money for cancer research and patient care to honor employees, family members and friends who have battled cancer.
