Health Science Center President Francisco G. Cigarroa, M.D., was pleased to welcome a new member of the Executive Committee at a meeting Oct. 3. Babatunde Oyajobi, M.D., Ph.D., assistant professor of cellular and structural biology, was selected as a member-at-large of the Executive Committee for the next three years.
“Joining the committee is a wonderful opportunity for me to learn about a variety of fields,” Dr. Oyajobi said. “I’m honored to have been selected.”
The Executive Committee’s member-at-large is a faculty member who shows great promise and interest in future leadership positions. The member-at-large attends all Executive Committee meetings and makes suggestions for particular issues. Dr. Oyajobi will receive exceptional mentoring and preparation for his future.
Adriana Segura, D.D.S., professor of general dentistry, was the member-at-large of the Executive Committee for the last three years.
“It was such an amazing opportunity to be able to learn from such experienced individuals,” Dr. Segura said. “I’m grateful that I was a part of the team and I know that Dr. Oyajobi will significantly benefit from it, as I did.”
Dr. Oyajobi joined the Health Science Center as a postdoctoral fellow in 1997, and in 2003, he was appointed as an assistant professor. His research focuses on skeletal biology and pathogenesis of cancer-induced bone diseases. He is first or co-author of more than 25 peer-reviewed papers and 10 book chapters.
