Duke University honors UTHSCSA's Blessing

San Antonio (March 31, 2003) — Duke University Medical Center inducted J. Dennis Blessing, Ph.D., associate professor and chair of the department of physician assistant studies, into its 2002 Alumni Hall of Fame.

"It's a nice honor to be inducted into the Alumni Hall of Fame," Dr. Blessing said. "Duke is a well-known university with more than 1,000 physician assistant graduates, many of whom are distinguished leaders in the field. It's great to be included in that group."

A 1976 Duke graduate, Dr. Blessing came to the Health Science Center three years ago to begin the physician assistant program, which graduated its first class in December. "I also came to the Health Science Center because of the great opportunity and the wonderful people here," he said.

Dr. Blessing also has been honored with the Distinguished Alumnus Award from Duke University's Physician Assistant Program. He is the editor and a contributor to the books Physician Assistant's Guide to Research and Medical Literature and Clinical Problem Solving for Physician Assistants. He has published more than 100 articles and has served in many roles in professional organizations in Texas and nationwide, including the Texas Academy of Physician Assistants and the American Academy of Physician Assistants. He has served as president of the Association of Physician Assistant Programs.
