Hugh B. Tilson Endowed Chair designated (6/30/98)

An endowed chair in the oral and maxillofacial surgery (OMS) department at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio’s Dental School has been designated as the Hugh B. Tilson Endowed Chair in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery. Dr. Tilson is professor and past chairman of the department.

Last month The University of Texas System Board of Regents approved the designation. Proceeds from the endowment will be used to support institutional research in oral and maxillofacial surgery in perpetuity.

Dr. Tilson, a full-time faculty member for 28 years at the Health Science Center, is a past president of the Texas and Southwest Societies of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons and currently serves as the Trustee from District V on the American Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons Board of Trustees.

The funds used to establish the chair are from patient care services performed by OMS faculty. The American Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons and the Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Foundation each contributed $5,000 in accordance with their respective policies on giving.

Both the Association and the Foundation also have contributed like amounts toward the Chas A. McCallum Endowed Chair in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery established at The University of Alabama; the James L. Pettier Endowed Chair in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at Louisiana State University Medical Center, New Orleans; the Robert V. Walker Endowed Chair in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas; the Orrin H. & Lucille W. Stuteville Endowed Chair in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at Northwestern University’s Dental School at Chicago; and the Jack W. Gamble Endowed Chair in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at Louisiana State University Medical Center, Shreveport.
