Nurse-researcher studies teen smoking cessation (12-31-99)
A new program for helping teens to stop smoking has received $150,000 in tobacco settlement money for its first year. The grant, from the University Health System, will finance the work of researcher Kathleen Stevens, Ed.D., RN, FAAN, of the School of Nursing at The University of Texas Health Science at San Antonio. Her project is titled "Teen Smoking Cessation: Impact of Evidence-Based Practice."
Funding for the second and third year of the program will be contingent on review by the University Health System Board of Managers.
Dr. Stevens, a professor in the Department of Family Nursing Care, also has been appointed editor of the Online Journal of Knowledge Synthesis for Nursing.
