National ob-gyn board taps Schenken for director post

The American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology has elected Robert Schenken, M.D., professor of obstetrics and gynecology at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UTHSCSA), as director of its Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility. He has been appointed to the Maintenance of Certification Committee.

The American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology is an independent, non-profit organization that certifies obstetricians, gynecologists and reproductive endocrinologists in the United States. Founded in 1927, it is one of 24 specialty boards recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties.

Dr. Schenken joined the UTHSCSA faculty in 1980. He is professor of obstetrics and gynecology, the Frank Harrison Chair in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, and director of the division of reproductive endocrinology and infertility. He earned his bachelor of science degree in chemistry from Stanford University in 1974 and his M.D. degree from Baylor College of Medicine in 1977. He has served as principal investigator on related research projects funded by the National Institutes of Health and the World Health Organization and is principal investigator for the Women's Health Initiative Clinical Center at UTHSCSA.
