Elston named vice president of Barnes-Jewish foundation (6/30/97)
W. Frank Elston, vice president for university relations at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio since 1989, has been named vice president of the Barnes-Jewish Hospital Foundation in St. Louis. Barnes-Jewish Hospital is a member of the BJC Health System, the second largest not-for-profit health care system in the United States.
The newly created position in the Washington University Medical Center will direct the total fund-raising program for the hospital, ranked among the top 10 in the nation by *U.S. News & World Report.*
During his eight-year tenure here, Elston established the first university relations office, formalized fund-raising and alumni activities for the Health Science Center, helped raise the university's endowment from $9.7 million to more than $25 million and started numerous programs on campus and in the community to increase appreciation of and support for the university's missions. Also under his leadership, more than $15 million has been raised for various capital campaign projects.
"Frank Elston has been a wonderful leader for this campus and this community," said Health Science Center President John P. Howe III, MD. "I will miss him as an outstanding vice president and as a friend, but it is also very gratifying to see his record of achievement recognized by a great institution like Barnes."
