UTHSCSA professor named as one of Best Family Doctors in America

The Ladies Home Journal has listed Robert Schenken, M.D., professor of obstetrics and gynecology at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UTHSCSA), as one of the "Best Family Doctors in America" for May 2002. Dr. Schenken occupies the Frank Harrison Chair in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility and is director of the division of reproductive endocrinology and infertility at UTHSCSA.

Each month, the magazine's representatives ask Castle Connolly, the publisher of the consumer health care guide America's Top Doctors, to develop a directory of the nation's top doctors in three health fields: family practice, pediatrics and reproductive medicine. Castle Connelly's team of physicians and researchers follows a rigorous screening process.

Dr. Schenken has been a member of the faculty at the UTHSCSA since 1980. He earned his bachelor of science degree in chemistry from Stanford University in 1974 and his M.D. degree from Baylor College of Medicine in 1977. His clinical and basic research interests are endometriosis, assisted reproduction, mature women's health and the effects of drug abuse on reproduction. He has served as principal investigator on related research projects funded by the National Institutes of Health and the World Health Organization and currently serves as the principal investigator for the Women's Health Initiative Clinical Center at the UTHSCSA.
