Women prominent in 2000 enrollment (1-20-00)
More women are enrolled in the Medical and Dental schools of The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio than ever before. The percentage of Hispanic students enrolled is up as well, from 18.93 percent last year to 19.57 percent this year, according to university statistics.
Of 824 students enrolled in the Medical School, nearly half, or 401, are women. Female enrollment also is up in the Dental School, where 150 of 359 students, and 11 of 37 postdoctoral students, are women.
Enrollment totals 2,545 students in the Health Science Centerís component schools. At last count, the School of Allied Health Sciences enrolled 462 students, of whom 326 are women; the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences enrolled 271, including 149 women; and the School of Nursing enrolled 592, including 450 women.
