Nursing graduates take prep course for licensure test (6/13/97)
Nineteen May 1997 nursing graduates from Laredo Community College have completed a one-week course in San Antonio that prepares them for the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses.
The course was held at The University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, and concluded on June 13.
Attendance and expenses were covered by the South Texas/Border Region Health Education Initiative, a legislative program to expand health-career education in the Laredo area.
"The licensing exam to practice as a registered nurse is difficult and very comprehensive. Preparatory instruction is a great help to any student. These individuals now have more confidence because they know what to expect, have been through a lengthy review process, and know how to use their knowledge to pass the exam," said Dr. Suellen B. Reed, director of academic projects and grants with the School of Nursing at the Health Science Center.
"Laredo Community College would like to commend the South Texas/Border Region Health Education Initiative and UT Health Science Center for sponsoring such a valuable review course for our nursing graduates," said Dr. Diana Gonzalez, vice president for instruction at Laredo Community College. "It's great to know that this educational partnership will help support and improve the nursing opportunities for Laredo and the South Texas region."
She added, "I would like to extend my best wishes to our graduates as they take their licensure exam."
The graduates who participated are: Iris Aguilar, Jasmine Chavarria, Alonso Escobedo, Nancy E. Galvan, Ana Laura Garcia, Carmen Garcia, Icela Garcia, Margarita Gonzalez, Rebecca Gonzalez, Larry Kaler, Rhonda Link, Olga Lozano, Ana Clarissa Morales, Dora E. Navarro, Gloria Puente, Jesus Quiroz, Veronica V. Rodriguez, Cynthia M. Trevino, and Cynthia Villarreal.
