Dental benefit set for March 25 (3-16-00)

Miles for Smiles, a 5K run, 2K walk, childrenís run and health fair sponsored by The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, will be held Saturday, March 25, at the Health Science Center track. The universityís Dental School offers the event each spring.

Registration begins at 7 a.m. and the 5K run starts at 8 a.m. The 2K walk will follow at 8:15 a.m. and the Kids Run will start at 9:15 a.m. A health fair and awards ceremony will be held after the races.

The event is designed to promote good oral health. Proceeds will be returned to the community through dental programs, which include a school-based fluoride rinse program, a preventive sealant program and other dental care services for underserved areas of San Antonio.

Race-day registration is $15 for adults and $8 for children 12 and under. Each entrant will receive a Miles for Smiles commemorative T-shirt and is eligible to win various door prizes. Cash prizes of up to $75 will be awarded for overall winners, and awards will be presented for the top three finishers in several age groups.

The track is located along Babcock Road between Louis Pasteur and Merton Minter drives. Parking is available immediately after turning at the Health Science Centerís entrance off Merton Minter.
