Walters named Texas Dentist of the Year for 1997 (10/13/97)
Glenn R. Walters, Sr., DDS, associate professor of endodontics and general practice at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, has been named Texas Dentist of the Year for 1997 by the Texas Academy of General Dentistry. He was nominated for the award by the San Antonio District Dental Society.
The announcement was made at the academy's annual Lone Star Dental Conference in Austin recently.
To even earn a nomination, a dentist must show dedication to the profession, service to the community, commitment to the principles of continuing education and other activities that reflect character and excellence.
Dr. Walters, who has been on the Health Science Center dental faculty since 1971, also practices endodontics in the community. He earned his dental degree and his postgraduate endodontics certificate from The University of Texas Dental Branch at Houston and did an internship in general dentistry at Wilford Hall Medical Center.
He is a member of the American Dental Association and the Texas Dental Association where, last year, he served as vice president. Dr. Walters is a fellow in the International College of dentists and was instrumental in developing the endodontics curriculum for the Dental School.
A congratulatory letter from Texas Governor George W. Bush said in part, "For the past 31 years, your dedication to your profession has expanded knowledge and educational curriculum in the field of endodontics. I commend you for your many activities that enhance people's health and contribute to the dental profession."
