School of Nursing seminar focuses on ‘Herbs and Health’ (11-11-99)
The School of Nursing at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio is sponsoring a presentation on "Herbs and Health" as part of its Seminar Series on Health. The lecture is from 7:45 to 9 a.m. Nov. 17 at the San Antonio Country Club. Tickets are $20 per person and include a breakfast buffet. Call (210) 567-5901 for reservations.
The featured speaker is Beverly Hall, RN, Ph.D., FAAN, professor of nursing at The University of Texas at Austin and distinguished professor at the College of Nursing Arts and Sciences, Hyogo, Japan.
Dr. Hall will discuss the health benefits and uses of a number of common herbs, including echinacea, ginger, garlic, gingko biloba, saw palmetto and St. John’s Wort.
"I hope to stimulate an excitement for learning more about a fascinating area of scientific investigation and encourage a respect for the inclusion of holistic ways of healing into modern medicine," Dr. Hall said.
Dr. Hall holds a Master of Arts in psychiatric mental health nursing from New York University and a Ph.D. in sociology from the University of Colorado. Her current research focuses on psychosocial and spiritual aspects of terminal illness. She has taught a number of courses in techniques such as therapeutic touch and herbal therapy.
