Physician assistant group honors UTHSC department chair

Dennis J. Blessing, Ph.D., chairman of the department of physician assistant studies at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UTHSC), recently received the first Research Award from the Association of Physician Assistant Programs.

The national organization fosters faculty development and promotes excellence in physician assistant studies. This is the first year the association has presented an award recognizing lifetime achievements in conducting, publishing and teaching research.

Dr. Blessing has authored more than 100 publications and recently edited and contributed to the book Physician Assistant's Guide to Research and Medical Literature. The book is an introduction to research for physician assistant students. He serves on the association's Research and Review Committee and is on the advisory board of its Pedersen Research Institute. He has been an active member of the association for 18 years and joined the UTHSC faculty in May 2000.
