Service and Utility Announcement
Outage of Emergency Electrical Power for Medical School Building
Sections A through F on August 11
July 22, 2013
A few months ago, Facilities Management (FM) was notified by City Public Service (CPS) that some of the components that supply normal power electricity to the Long Campus appeared to be overheating and needed to be replaced. We are trying to schedule the outage during the Christmas holidays to correct that problem.
In preparation for that extended normal power outage, we need to replace the emergency back up electrical power that supplies the Medical School sections A, B, C, D, E & F because the existing original emergency generator broke and is no longer repairable. We are now ready to switch the rental generator with another fully functional replacement generator. Taking into consideration class schedules and after working closely with Environmental Health and Safety (EHS), the UT Police Department (UTPD), Computing Resources, and Lab Animal Resources (LAR), Sunday, August 11th was determined to be the best date to make the switch. Sunday was selected for the fact of low occupancy level throughout the campus.
On Sunday, Aug 11th, between 6:00am and 6:00pm, there will be intermittent emergency power outages. Normal electricity will not be affected. The first outage will be 2 hours (from 6:00am - 8:00am). After 8:00am, there will be intermittent outages while all the individual circuits are transitioned. After the initial 2 hour outage, the subsequent outages, which will run from 30 to 60 minutes each, will rotate around the affected floors. Once again, the affected areas are only Medical School building corridors A, B, C, D, E & F. No other buildings will be affected.
|Emergency power is
identified by the red faceplate.
Only equipment on emergency power (red plugs) will be affected, example: walk-in freezers, walk in environmental rooms, standalone freezers, refrigerators, cameras, card readers and some lighting that are on emergency power. Please be sure that you have posted updated contact names and phone numbers on any sensitive equipment and instruct your lab staff NOT TO OPEN freezers and other temperature sensitive devices on this day. If you have any equipment that can be disconnected from the red plugs and moved to normal plugs on this day, please do so.
UTPD, EHS, Computing Recourses, Access Control and Facilities Management will all be present at the time of the outage.
