New Roof for the Briscoe Library

Plans are underway to replace the roof of the Briscoe Library, a project that will begin in early mid-March and will last about three months. The building is 30+ years old and it still sports its original roof.  Over the years, the roof has been patched numerous times and has long outlived the design life of the roofing materials.

Facilities Management recognizes that there is never a good time to do library repairs. However, the new roof is desperately needed.  We are cognizant of the fact that this project could impact students studying for module tests, finals and USMLE Step 1 exams, and everyone who uses the Howe Conference Room and Special Collections Reading Room. As such, we have worked with Library staff and occupants to schedule this work between exams and in the most ideal time possible.  Facilities Management will do its best to mitigate the noise and will be working with building staff and stakeholders to communicate about particularly loud phases.

During construction, the library leadership has designated the third and fourth floors to be quiet zones and the fifth floor will be designated for general purpose (less quiet) use.  As always, the second floor library classrooms are available to HSC ID holders for 24/7 study when not in use for classes or meetings.  Watch for library user impact notices on the Briscoe Library Renovations blog http://renovate-briscoe.tumblr.com/.
