Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA)

    The University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio is currently recruiting for a Certified Ophthalmic Assistant.  This individual will assist the ophthalmologist and/or optometrist in the treatment and care of patients in our Faculty Practice Clinic.  Job duties include maintaining and sterilizing ophthalmic instruments, maintaining the stock room and exam room, administering tests to measure and record basic ocular functions and performing patient workups.  The Ophthalmic Assistant will also administer eye and oral medications as directed, change dressings, and schedule office visits and outpatient surgeries.  Requirements are completion of two years of college, including courses in basic sciences, with one year of related experience in the field of ophthalmology; or High school diploma plus completion of basic and advanced home-study courses approved by JCAHPO, with two years of related experience in the field of ophthalmology.  Certification by the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (JCAHPO) as an Ophthalmic Assistant is required.
