Alumni Enjoy Fruits of Beckers’ Labor
On March 17, 60 alumni and guests packed into shuttle buses for a leisurely drive through the wildflower-laden Texas Hill Country to Becker Vineyards in Stonewall, TX. Dr. Richard ’71 and Bunny Becker, and their son, Dr. Joe Becker ’05, led a tour of their facilities, followed by a wine and cheese reception and a three-course meal with wine pairings. Many thanks to the Beckers, who have for two generations made a lasting impact on the School of Medicine as students, faculty, alumni, class agents, and donors. Alumni Gifts Impact Educational Experience for Students
In the past six months, alumni gifts have dramatically impacted students’ educational experience. Thanks to the generosity of our graduates, the Alumni Association has been able to pay for enhancements to the H-E-B Clinical Skills Center; a medical mission trip to The Banyan clinic in Chennai, India; five mini-grants for community service learning initiatives; and a new Keurig coffee maker and freezer in the Alumni Association Student Lounge. RGV Alumni Chapter Hosts Event in McAllen
On February 25, more than 40 alumni, community physicians, and MedEd and FASTS students attended an RGV Alumni Chapter event at the McAllen Country Club. Between breakfast and a luncheon, Dr. Ruth Berggren and Dr. David Katerndahl gave CME presentations on ethics and the challenge of primary care practice. Anthony ’91 Named Chief of Staff for Memorial Health System in CO
Dr. Karen Anthony ’91 has been named Chief of Staff for Memorial Health System, one of the largest health systems in Colorado with more than 600 acute care beds in two hospitals. Anthony is board-certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology and has been practicing at Memorial Health System for the past nine years.  Her term as Chief of Staff began in January and will continue through December 2013.

Olin ’73 and Medical Students Join Forces to Play “Les Preludes”
On February 25, the San Antonio Symphony held its Second Annual Pro-Am. The orchestra invited local amateur musicians to apply to play Franz Liszt's "Les Preludes" with them. Several medical students and an alumnus were accepted. Instrumentalist pictured in front row are (l to r) Amy Yu (MS2) - 2nd violin, Pon-Pon Yeh (MS2) – 2nd violin, Patrick Dideum (MS1) – 3rd trombone, and Fred H. Olin, M.D. '73 – 2nd trombone.
