Welcome to the Center for South Texas Programs
Established in 1996, the CSTP provides oversight of remote programs of the University of Texas Health Science Center (UTHSCSA) in the 38 counties of South Texas. The CSTP acts as a liaison between communities and resources at UTHSCSA. Our mission is to improve health on the individual and community levels by training health professionals to provide culturally competent and quality care, develop the next generation of leaders in health care, and design innovative programs that promote health and well being.
The CSTP directs the activities of the South Texas Area Health Education Center (AHEC) Program and has numerous affiliations and partnerships with UTHSCSA Departments and Community Agencies. The CSTP provides program planning, community analysis and conducts health services research and evaluation with special emphasis on translational research. The CSTP is committed to excellence and works closely with community partners that share a similar mission to reduce and eliminate health disparities due to poverty, access to care, environmental factors, gender and race. The CSTP collaborates with practice-based researchers to disseminate findings and translate research into everyday clinical practice to ultimately improve the health and quality of life for the people of South Texas.
