Message From the President

The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, also called UT Health San Antonio, is on an ambitious path toward becoming the third-largest public research university in Texas as it officially merges with The University of Texas at San Antonio on Sept. 1, 2025.

The combined strengths of both universities will shape the future of education, research, health sciences and health care nationally and globally. This historic endeavor will lay the groundwork for an institution that not only meets today’s challenges, but also anticipates tomorrow’s opportunities — one that is innovative, collaborative and ready to lead on the national stage.

Over the past six decades, UT Health San Antonio has excelled in its mission to improve the health of the community, the nation and the world. Tireless efforts in our laboratories have translated into some of the world’s most advanced treatments for disease, most notably the Palmaz Stent and the Vertical Expandable Prosthetic Titanium Rib.

Each discovery contributes to leading therapies for the 2.5 million patient visits we offer through our comprehensive network of medical, dental and nursing specialists. Our schools of medicine, nursing, dentistry, health professions, graduate biomedical sciences and public health have graduated more than 43,700 alumni who are themselves leading change, advancing their fields and renewing hope for patients and their families.

Today, UT Health San Antonio is embarking on an unprecedented transformation, including investing nearly $1 billion in capital improvements over the next four years. Each investment is designed to drive innovation, enhance education and elevate patient care.

We invite you to journey with us into an exciting future as we create a unified university that reflects our bold aspirations to become one of the nation’s preeminent public research institutions, a top-tier academic and health enterprise and a destination for excellence in education, health care, and research and innovation.
